Cirrus, WestmorelandFlint win district ADDY awards

Two Duluth businesses, Cirrus Design and WestmorelandFlint, were recognized this week with silver and gold ADDY Awards at the American Advertising Federation’s District 8 competition.

Competing against advertising agencies, corporate marketing departments, design firms and the like from all across Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and the Dakotas, the winning local firms faced thousands of other entrants in a highly-contested creative event.

WestmorelandFlint, the area’s largest advertising, marketing and public relations firm, won a gold ADDY for a Udac Mailing and Shredding Services Campaign which featured a shredded magazine insert. The agency also received a silver award for a …

Munson sisters to co-chair March for Babies campaign

Deann Munson and Luann Munson will serve as co-chairs for the Duluth March for Babies 2008 campaign, Walk To Save Babies.

Deann Munson currently serves as March of Dimes Northland Division board chairwoman. Her sister, Luann, was on the Walk committee a year ago.

Previously known as WalkAmerica, the March for Babies is April 26 and begins at the Park Point Beach House at 9 a.m.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march and rally April 10

The 1st annual Program for Aid to Victims of Sexual Assault Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march and rally will be held April 10 in Duluth. The event is a light-hearted approach to raising awareness of the serious issue of sexual violence against women, and is geared towards men who pledge to walk one mile in women’s shoes.

The men who march in high heels will get a sense of how “being a woman hurts sometimes,” said Ed Heisler, Community Education Coordinator for Safe Haven Shelter for Battered Women.

Newest Top 10 Lake Superior destinations

Grand Marais, Minnesota, again earned its own spot on the Top 10 Lake Superior Destinations chosen by travelers and readers of the Lake Superior Travel Guide, now on the newsstands with its 21st Edition.

Once again the North Shore of Minnesota earned the top spot, as it has since the Top 10 list was started in 1993. But Grand Marais earned enough of its own votes to get the No. 4 spot this year.

Grandma’s Restaurant Company, a Duluth-based restaurant and retail company with 11 operations throughout the Midwest, has appointed the following:

LeeAnn Smith has been promoted to Service & Beverage Manager of Bellisio’s Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar. She joined Bellisio’s service team in July 2003 as a Bartender and was promoted to Front-of-the-house Supervisor in August 2007. LeeAnn was previously a Server for Little Angie’s Cantina from May 1999 to April 2003. LeeAnn has also earned a LPN licensure, and AA, AS, and RN degrees from Lake Superior College in Duluth.

How Leatherheads landed in Duluth
